Gods of Olympus Notes


Gods of Olympus

Patriarchal society – Male dominated society, they want to keep their power.

In this cosmology men have an inferiority complex. Am an was raised in a matriarchal house hold until 7, they were put into a patriarchal society. Subconsciously they have this because they no that women are not feeble or week like society would have them believe. So they must go on an epic, follow the Homeric pattern. Arete, Hubris, Até, Nemesis. 
Arete-strive for excellence.
Hubris- Excessive pride.
Até- Going to far, “exceeding the bounds meant for them by the universe”. In ancient Greek it means literature it means exceeding the bounds meant for you by the gods.

A demigod is half man half god.

Anthropomorphic is in the shape or form of humans.

Pantheon is a family of gods.

Cosmology- the study of the universe

Ology-the study of

The purposes of myth

Read of Hephaestus and Aphrodite, patriarchy of men not needing women.
